THE CHICAGO CHAPTER of the Fulbright Association participated in the celebration of International Women’s Day on March 8, 2012 at the International Trade Club of Chicago. Organized by WorldChicago, the event included an international exhibit fair with booths sponsored by numerous local, national, and international organizations and a luncheon.

Sara Robb O’Hagan, Gatorade president North America and global chief marketing officer, Sports Nutrition of PepsiCo

Following the luncheon and addresses by two Cultural Speakers, Roxane Assaf, Palestinian-American professional singer, actor and talk show producer, and Avirama Golan, Senior correspondent for Haaretz Newspaper (Israel), Sara Robb O’Hagan, Gatorade president North America and global chief marketing officer, Sports Nutrition of PepsiCo, gave a speech entitled “From the Sidelines to the Workplace: The Increasing Relevancy of Female Leadership.” Much of her interesting and informative talk focused on the importance of sports participation among women and girls and the lessons learned from sports that women could use in the workplace and in furthering their careers.

They were: Rannveig Sigurvinsdottir from Iceland (Psychology- UIC,) Justyna Balcarczyk, a scholar from Poland, Julia Khort from Ukraine (Law-Northwestern University,) Ana Williams from Nicaragua (Public Health-UIC,) Afnan from Indonesia (Computer Science-UIC,) Federico Padrones Salvador from Spain (History-Loyola University) and Pinar Uner Yilmaz from Turkey (Art History-UIC.) 1. I really enjoyed it! Thank you very much for inviting us. Also, Sara Robb O’Hagan’s remarks were very interesting. She was close to the audience, connecting with them through her personal experiences. Her defense of Lego’s new line of toys and that women in the business world should act more like women and less like men really struck me.
